11. (Paired) Pheasants Fly in the Morning
- Yu mode, standard tuning:2 5 6 1 2 3 5 6 |
雉朝飛
1
Zhi Zhao Fei |
The version here is quite different from the Zhi Zhao Fei in Shen Qi Mi Pu, though the preface is the same, except as noted.
In addition, instead of ending with a reference to play the coda from the modal introduction, there is a coda which as written strangely centers on so in spite of the piece being in la mode throughout. Zheyin's Wu Ye Ti also does this.
The preface mostly quotes the preface to Zhi Zhao Fei in Shen Qi Mi Pu. However, it begins
"The Beyond-Sounds Immortal says....according to the Royal Ancestor's Handbook..."
It is then the same as in Shen Qi Mi Pu, adding at the end:
"Ah, the skill of clever birds at being in good places and having mates! How this compares to the way we people are!"
