For a qin story concerning Wen Tianxiang see Xu Jian's History, Chapter 6a3. His biography here tells of him singing songs together with his hometown friend 胡日宣 Hu Rixuan. It then tells of the qin player Wang Yuanliang visiting him in prison in Beijing, a story also related by Xu Jian. (Note Wang Yuanliang's nickname 水雲 Shuiyun.)

The melody Zheng Qi Ge uses his lyrics.

The original biography in Qin Shi Xu begins as follows,

Wen Tianxiang's original name was 雲孫 Wen Yunsun. 天祥 Tianxiang was his style name....
