Qin Shi Bu
Yi Hai
- Qin Shi Bu #114
義海 1
琴史補 #114 2

Yi Hai, like Zhi Bai, studied qin from Yi Zhong. At present most information here about Yi Hai is in Xu Jian, Qinshi Chubian Chapter 6a1 (p.85). Qinshu Daquan, e.g., Folio 20A, #43, has poems by Ouyang Xiu about Zhi Bai; this is different from what is here.

Sources given:

  1. 夢溪筆談 Mengxi Bitan by 沈括 Shen Gua (1030 - 1093); same as in QSDQ Folio17, #45; and
  2. 西清詩話 Xiqing Shihua (nfi 35587.441xxx).

The original Qin Shi Bu essay begins as follows.

Yi Hai was a monk from Yue (Zhejiang). During 976 - 984 the 琴待詔 Hanlin Academy qin official Zhu Wenji was the best qin player in the kingdom. The 京師慧日大夷中 capital city's Wisdom-Sun Monk Yi Zhong completely learned his techniques, then transmitted them to Yi Hai. Having mastered Yi Zhong's art, Yi Hai went to 越州法華山 Fahua Mountain in Yue and practiced them.... (Long essay tells more of Yi Hai;

Further details in preparation.
